What do you do in the mountains during warmer months when the slopes are closed, and you can’t ski? In Telluride, Colorado, you festival!
Telluride is home to some of the best skiing in the world. But, spring, summer and fall here are just as spectacular and packed with things to do for all ages and interests. Of all the Colorado mountain towns, Telluride is known for its summer festivals with nearly every week from May through October covered by a music or cultural festival.
Nestled in a box canyon surrounded by the San Juan Mountains, people are drawn to this historic mining town for its majestic mountain views and quaint, small-town feel. Once you’ve experienced Telluride, you won’t want to leave the beauty or the fun. In fact, there’s a saying around town that you came for a festival, and 20 years later, you’re still here.
At Lifestyle Asset Group, we like to festival too. Here are some of our Telluride favorites:
- Telluride Wine Festival, June 28-July 1
“This festival is the ideal blend of my favorite things: fabulous food, wine and adventure!” says Karla Jones, sales and marketing.
In its 36th year, the Telluride Wine Festival invites guests to sample wines and spirits from across the globe. The event features luncheons and tastings hosted by local restaurants and seminars by some of the world’s most revered chefs.
- The RIDE Festival, July 14-15
“Great people, great vibe, well organized festival,” says Tommy Robinson, finance.
The String Cheese Incident, Sheryl Crow and Grace Potter are the top headliners at this year’s RIDE Festival, but the two-day music festival has a full line up of root rock talent. Fun for the whole family, the RIDE Festival Kid’s Tent will feature arts and crafts projects, games and a kid’s stage with magic acts, acoustic sing-a-longs and open mic.
- Blues and Brews Festival, October 12-14
“No worries if you tip a few too many brews during this awesome festival. The free Gondola takes you right back to the house. You never have to drive your car the entire time,” says Richard Keith, Real Estate Acquisition.
Most of the shows are performed on the Main Stage in Telluride's Town Park located at the east end of downtown. The Grand Beer Tasting features more than 50 microbreweries and over 150 different beers. As the sun goes down, acts from earlier in the day play intimate late night performances at smaller “juke joint” venues around the town of Telluride and Mountain Village.
