New York City is one of the leaders of the fashion world, along with Paris, Milan and London, so there’s never a shortage of high-end retail experiences to be had. From the glitz and glamor of Fifth Avenue to the grittiness and bustle of the Fashion District, New York City is a must-do experience for those with a good eye, a keen sense of fashion and a large checkbook. Finish off a long day of shopping with a relaxing spa treatment before you head back to your Turtle Bay condo.

Retail Experiences

Some of the most iconic retailers call New York City home, including Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys, Macy’s Herald Square, Bloomingdale’s, Henri Bendel, Tory Burch and Saks Fifth Avenue. Instead of fighting the crowds, look to the stores’ VIP amenities instead. Bergdorf Goodman, for example, offers a personal shopping suite where you can relax and be pampered while viewing the latest fashions, or stop at the Armani mega-store on Fifth Avenue to shop and enjoy a light luncheon prepared by Lorenzo Viani, a Michelin-starred chef who operates a small restaurant right in the store.

Most of the city’s design houses and boutique stores are located along Fifth Avenue, 57th Street and Madison Avenue, although the up-and-coming NoLita and SoHo have their fair share as well. The not-to-be-missed list includes Tiffany & Company, Louis Vuitton and Versace on Fifth Avenue, Chanel and Addison on Madison on 57th Street and Ralph Lauren on Madison Avenue.

After you’ve bought the newest little black dress and found the perfect pair of Jimmy Choos, give your home a little TLC by shopping at Restoration Hardware. Then get ready for your next yoga or Pilates class with selections from the Nike store or Lululemon, or give your kids a respite from the fashion world with a trip to FAO Schwartz or a ride on the ferris wheel located inside the Toys ‘R’ Us store on Times Square.

The Spa Scene

Like the city itself, many of New York’s spas never sleep so you can relax and unwind whenever you decide to call and end to your shopping marathon. The Signature Stress Melter at the Red Door Spa at The Chatwal New York is the perfect end to a day of visiting the city’s stores, and the spa even offers an indoor saltwater lap pool so you can get in shape for even more shopping.

If you’ve neglected your significant other while exploring the city’s retail landscape, consider booking a private couple’s room at the spa in the Mandarin Oriental in Columbus Circle. Enjoy a customized array of spa services for the two of you for an hour or a day. The spa at the Peninsula New York on Fifth Avenue is a great place for a midday respite. After sipping tea in the Asian-inspired lounge, you can take advantage of any of the spa’s services and then unwind in the spa’s relaxation lounge that’s completed with a personal sound system and a comfortable bed outfitted with high-end linens.
